School District Walkers Help Children's Clinic

Hundreds of Long Beach Unified School District employees, students and parents raised nearly $11,000 recently for the Children's Clinic at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center during the 11th Annual Beach Walk. Teams from 19 schools and 15 central office departments descended upon Shoreline Drive for the five-kilometer stroll. Their efforts earned the school district the Largest Company Team and Largest Fundraising Team awards. Dr. Carl Cohn, this year's honorary Beach Walk chairman, rewarded three schools for having the highest percentage of faculty and staff participating. International Elementary School won the top award of $1,000. Cleveland won $750, and Grant won $500. Washington Intensive Learning Center mustered the largest school team: 115 students and employees.
